På TT borde man lära sig det där med köpkraftsjustering. I notisen om fattigdomen i USA har de, som vanligt, multiplicerat gränsen för fattigdom med den rådande växelkursen, utan att försöka ta hänsyn till skillnader i priser. Återigen, köpkraftsjustering är ingen perfekt metod, men bättre än inget. Roar man sig med att göra det så går gränsen för fattigdom för en familj på fyra personer strax över 200 000 kronor, och inte 135 000 kronor som TT skriver.

PSD Blog tipsar om ett paper som undersöker ojämlikhet och inkomst i Kina.

Coauthors Xubei Luo and Nong Zhu do a lot of number crunching using the China Economic, Population, Nutrition and Health Survey and find that while inequality has risen rapidly in China, strong growth has meant that all income groups have seen pretty substantial economic gains.

…widening income inequality in China is not the result of stagnant income growth in certain segments of society or regions – all sub-national areas, including lagging inland rural areas, and the entire population, including the less affluent, has experienced gains in average income – but rather the consequence of unusually high and sustained growth in coastal and urban areas.
